The History of Buddy Holly Lives!

From the screaming, the wild applause and the delighted dancing of the audience everyone knew that something had happened. Just like it did in 1957 when Buddy Holly and the Crickets rose to fame with such hits as "That'll be the Day", "Peggy Sue" and "Oh Boy" - Now you can experience it too!

Born in Lubbock, Texas on Sept.7, 1936, Buddy Holly began his legacy as the father of rock'n'roll after enlisting the help of Joe B. Mauldin (Stand-up Bass) and Jerry Allison (drums), two of his high school chums. In only 22 months Buddy and the Crickets had 9 top 10 hits on Billboard's Top 100. Buddy Holly did more to influence modern music than any other person in the history of Rock'n'Roll with a string of original songs that cover a variety of styles including rockabilly. Buddy's career was tragically cut short when the plane he was flying in "American Pie" crashed 6 miles outside of Clear Lake Iowa on February 3, 1959 along with Ritchie Valens, J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson and the pilot(Roger Peterson) .

In Kingston, Ontario in the year 2000, Buddy Holly & The Crickets were brought back to life in the style they played in at their original shows. An authentic rockabilly recreation. This is different than the Buddy Holly Story. Sold out shows tell the story, with dedicated professional musicians with a wry wit and a joyous camaraderie (they can act too!). If you missed out on the birth of rock n’ roll, you will get a good idea of what was going on from 1955 to 1959 after seeing this show. Show after show, crowds are experiencing a time warp so real that by the end of the show they are asking where and when the next show will be! This web site gives you all the information on the band's next shows and much more!

Along with songs by Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Ritchie Valens, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and other notable founders of true rockabilly, you will be taken through a journey begun by Buddy Holly, but never completed. Buddy Holly Lives! will complete this circle, finish Buddy’s work and you can sit and watch along with his smiling spirit. The members of Buddy Holly Lives! have a diverse experience, and a polished sound they've been playing for audiences of dances, festivals, private parties, fund raisers and other events for over 25 years. Accomplished musicians David Bull, Marty Crapper and Stuart Pike all hail from Eastern Ontario and now reside in the Greater Kingston area. They have also been featured in the past and present on radio, television and cable, as well as in print. Each of the songs are reverently recreated with the rawness, the energy, the naivete and the simple joy the rockabilly beat to those classic melodies.
